ABOUT US

On January 28, 1989, Bellevue Alumnae Chapter became the 800th Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. This marked the culmination of a year of meetings, data gathering, and an enormous amount of enthusiasm! For the 16 Charter Members of the Chapter, it marked the beginning of a commitment of excellence set by the original beloved Delta Founders.

In its infancy years, the Bellevue Alumnae Chapter focused on Internal Development, Social Interaction and Public Service. In December of 1990, Bellevue Sorors initiated their Women Helping Women Public Service Project by adopting a Bellevue family consisting of a single mother and three elementary-age children to provide ongoing support. A chapter newsletter, an active telephone tree, time set aside at each meeting devoted to Delta Protocol and Traditions were established as ongoing Chapter strategies to foster vital links to communication and Sisterhood development.

Over the last 25 years the Bellevue Alumnae Chapter has continued its dedication to public service by sponsoring or participating in several Social Action projects including:

  • Scholarships for Eastside students
  • Adopting an Eastside family for the holidays
  • Tutoring students in a local school
  • Young authors conference
  • Habitat for Humanity
  • Donating for for Thanksgiving and Christmas to Hopelink
  • The Delta Academy and GEMS

Our beloved sorority is blessed with the historical path of women who possessed a special and rare ability to create a vision which has lasted a century. As the Bellevue Alumnae Chapter moves forward into the 21st Century, we do so with a commitment to public service, new achievements in political participation, and new joys and happiness in the fraternal bonds of Sister.
